It generates a third \u2014 10 Hz \u2014 which does not exist in the environment, but is produced internally by the auditory cortex. Dove called it binaural beating. At the time, no one imagined where this discovery would lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From the 1970s to modern research<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was Robert Monroe, in the 1970s, who grasped the application potential of binaural beats. An American researcher and entrepreneur, Monroe documented how specific frequencies could alter states of consciousness: from deep wakefulness to relaxation, all the way to profound meditative states. His Monroe Institute became a reference center, and his work paved the way for decades of neuroscientific studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we know that the brain, when exposed to these stimuli, tends to synchronize its electrical waves with the perceived frequency \u2014 a phenomenon called brain entrainment. It is not magic: it is neurophysiology measurable with EEG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequency bands and their effects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each band corresponds to a specific mental state. Delta waves (1\u20134 Hz) characterize deep sleep and recovery. Theta waves (4\u20138 Hz) emerge during meditation and creative visualization \u2014 an ideal state for mental rehearsal in sports. Alpha waves (8\u201313 Hz) mark relaxed alertness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">that zone of productive calm every athlete knows at their best moments. Beta waves (13\u201330 Hz) accompany active focus and readiness to perform. Gamma waves (&gt;30 Hz) are associated with peak cognitive processing and neural coherence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Important: binaural sounds only work with headphones. Without the physical separation of the two auditory channels, the brain cannot compute the frequency difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why they matter in sports<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Athletic performance is not only physical. Dozens of studies over the past twenty years document the impact of mental states on strength, coordination, reaction times, and resistance to fatigue. Binaural beats offer a non-invasive, repeatable, and measurable tool to modulate these states \u2014 before, during, and after training or competition.
